We Welcome You to join us for a Totally Criminal Cocktail Hour
Where Smart People Meet Featuring Mystery/Thriller Writers and Fans Totally Criminal Cocktail Hour takes place in downtown Stillwater at the Dock Cafe (at 425 Nelson Street on the river) Wednesday, June 4, 2008
Mary Logue - Maiden Rock Mary Logue - Maiden Rock Deputy Sheriff Claire Watkins is back, in this tragic, personal follow up to Poison Heart. After an all-night high school Halloween party, a young girl was found dead of an apparent suicide at the foot of Maiden Rock. Now Claire is faced with the question of accident, suicide, or murder. A nice peek into rural small-town America and the notion of meth labs, doped-up teenagers, and young girls just looking for a way to escape their small-town lives. Totally Criminal Cocktail hour is on vacation for July
Wednesday, August 6, 2008 Victoria Houston - Dead Hot Shot & Marshall Cook - Obsessions Victoria Houston - Dead Hot Shot Chief of Police Lew Ferris, short-handed thanks to an AWOL coroner, never even gets the turkey stuffed before the bodies start to surface. By the end of the day, credit card theft and dysfunctional families have so muddied the waters that not even expert tracker and dedicated fishing guide Ray Pradt can hope to fish the final day of muskie season.
Marshall Cook - Obsessions In Obsessions, everywhere Monona Quinn goes, people turn up dead - and Mo ends up confronting their killers! First there was Charlie, owner of the town diner and Mo's first friend after moving to little Mitchell, Wisconsin (Murder over Easy). Then there was the parish priest (Murder at Midnight). And now, even a trip to the family farm yields corpses.
The Valley Bookseller has arranged this series of Totally Criminal Cocktail Hours as a time when regional mystery fans and authors can get to know one another over appetizers in the welcoming ambiance of the Dock Cafe. It's a fun way to enrich the reading of the outstanding books these authors produce each year. Most often our guest authors talk about how they came up with a plot, or developed a character, or solved a technical problem (such as when Erin Hart shared how she discovered her "body in a bog" couldn't have been identified by DNA--as she had written in a first rough draft--because the bog environment destroys DNA). Fans also ask about how authors got published or developed recognition. There have been lots of intriguing surprises during discussions!
The price of $10.00 includes delicious appetizers, book signing, and the chance to visit with the scheduled author or authors (and sometimes additional authors show up!) A cash bar is also available.
Thank you for shopping local - It makes a difference!
